After many weeks of preparation and practice, the DECA students went to Kettle Moraine High School on Saturday, January 7th to compete in order to qualify for state. With categories ranging from Fashion Merchandising to Tourism, the students were up for a challenge against dozens of other schools in the Southern Wisconsin area. After two role play sessions and free food from Rocky Rococo’s, the students attended a special performance by a hypnotist as the results were calculated. “I’d never seen a hypnotist before…it was crazy!” said DECA state qualifier Evelyn Slawski. Soon after, the large group of over 200 students navigated their way to the auditorium for the awards ceremony, where Eisenhower picked up several awards and state nominations. Riya Mehta and Ashwin Sankrithi immediately qualified for state in March, placing first in each of their respective categories. Evelyn Slawski, Miranda Kapfhammer, Grace Blessington, Sullivan Kulju, and Joey Audi all qualified for state as well, placing within the top 4 in their categories. Overall it was a successful day for the DECA students of New Berlin Eisenhower. You can keep up with DECA by following @IkeLionsDECA on Twitter!
